What a difference a few years make!

In 1996, President Clinton signed The War Crimes Act into The Law Of The Land (passed with overwhelming majorities by the United States Congress), yet on January 25, 2002, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales made the determination, via a Secret Presidential Memo, (which has since come to light), that certain Constitutional safeguards, such as the Congressional Check on the power of the Executive Branch, was null and void, as well as rendering obsolete, The Geneva Conventions, most of which date from World War II!

What the American People need to realize is that many of our "leaders" are International War Criminals! They need to be brought to Justice in the World Court, the primary judicial organ of the United Nations, in The Hague, Netherlands, or in The International Criminal Court, which is a permanent tribunal to prosecute individuals for Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity, and War Crimes, which is also in The Hague.

We are told that "no American is above the law". No Secret Presidential Memo, dreamed up by a toadie, should make even George W. Bush nor Richard B. Cheney safe from International Justice!

I believe Nancy Pelosi has made a grave error by taking Impeachment off the table (as she is quoted as saying after becoming Speaker of the United States House of Representatives in 2007). But as long as Bush and Cheney (among others) are tried in The World Court, perhaps they don't need to be Impeached. Is that your reasoning, as well, Mrs. Pelosi?

Last year, the United States Supreme Court ruled in "Hamdan v. Rumsfeld" that "Common Article 3 of the Third Geneva Convention applied to the War on Terrorism", implying that any interrogation techniques that violated Common Article 3 constituted War Crimes!

In Gonzales' secret memo, he actually argued that certain language in the Geneva Conventions, such as "outrages upon personal dignity" and "inhuman treatment", could make officials and military leaders subject to the War Crimes Act of 1996 if mistreatment was discovered!

Let me assure any of you that weren't paying attention, MISTREATMENT HAS BEEN DISCOVERED!

The War Crimes Act of 1996 was passed unanimously by the Senate, by a voice vote in the House, and was supported by the Department of Defense, who actually recommended making U.S. soldiers accountable for War Crimes, "because doing so set a high standard for others to follow". Since when do we make exceptions for our "leaders", based upon one man's legal opinion, issued in a secret memo, solely to the Executive Branch?

High Crimes and Misdemeanours have truly been perpetrated on The American People, and on The World-At-Large! Let's do the right thing and ship these "leaders", (I can hardly bring myself to call these thugs the "President" and "Vice-President" of Our United States), off to meet their day in World Court.

The sooner, the better, IMHO.
