A Quantum Stardrive

In Jack McDevitt's book "A Talent For War" (Ace Books, 1989), I read a concept in Science Fiction which in the 44 years since I've been reading the genre, I had never come across before.

It may be that either I haven't read the right books, or I wasn't paying attention, or I've forgotten, or perhaps it is unique, I do not know which. If you have opinions and advice on the issue, I'd love to read more about it.

Mr. McDevitt postulates a stardrive based on the principle of "Quantum Gravity".

I will quote a short section: "... equipped with a tunable gravity wave collector, enhanced by hyperconductive magnets designed to reduce electrical resistance to a negative factor. The result: the ship was able to achieve displacement in time/space fabric with a zero time interval."

He calls it a "Quantum Drive", and speculates that "large physical objects are capable of the quantum jump of the electron. That is, it is possible to move them from point to point without crossing the intervening space."

I liked this book and I like the author. It was very readable and had lots of speculative technologies in it, which is my favorite type of SF. Thank you, for the concept of quantumized gravity waves, Mr. McDevitt!
