Droning On, Killing Time...

In my view, various American Governments have been in violation of International Law in many ways, places and times. Today, the Obama Administration kills civilians around the world, using drones, while denying that it does, while simultaneously assuring us that if it did use drones, it most assuredly would do so in a totally "legal" manner, please trust them on that!

"Living Under Drones: Death, Injury, and Trauma to Civilians From U.S. Drone Practices in Pakistan" shows that we can't trust this Government on this issue!

This report shows that the U.S. is the only country in the world (over 66 countries now have drone technology) that has used drones to kill civilians. This report also shows that, of all the drone kills supposedly targeting "High Value Targets" in the "War On Terrorism", only 2% actually killed known, high-ranking Al-Qaeda targets!

Apparently, to make things more acceptable, our government has designated ANY adult male seen by a drone as an "enemy combatant", therefore, an "acceptable target". Therefore, for our government, the only target that is "out of bounds" would be one with ONLY women and children present. One adult male and no matter how many women and children are present, the drone strike is "legal". Wow!

So, hundreds or thousands of "civilians" have been killed by America, in an effort to kill a very few individuals that threaten us, 11 years after 9/11? And this is supposed to make America safer?

I DO NOT want the Obama Administration, nor any before or after his, to kill (or torture) civilians, or anyone else, in my name, thank you very much. I DO want complete transparency of this program, and justification of why it is OK for our government to kill civilians in a country we are not at war with. If any other country did this to OUR country, or even an ALLY of America, we would be in a war with that new government overnight.

Somehow, it is OK for America to do what is against International Law, and against the Geneva Conventions, simply because we are powerful? We can, therefore we do?

Not in my book. Not any more. I call on Mr. Obama to stop these attacks against civilians, and to release all information about their use in the past.. I don't think it makes us safer, I think it makes victims hate America.
