Mood: Sick Read/Post Comments (0) |
2003-08-20 10:31 AM Lawnmowers and Screen Doors The 70-hour work weeks, lack of sleep, and dodgy diet choices have finally paid off. I'm sick. I'm sort of surprised that it has taken this long.
Last night I called in sick at the restaurant to get some much needed sleep, but was unsuccessful in that endeavor. I ended up having a friend (well, mere acquaintance, really) come over to fix my lawnmower. I pretty much railroaded him at darts one week to come and take a look at it. Jim is a landscaper, and stopped over after work to take a look. He wouldn't let me pay him, and he had to leave to get tools and come back to fix it. He ended up staying over until almost 10:30 at night, because we ended up just standing by his truck talking about horror movies, Sam, and his ex-wife. When he left I couldn't stop thinking how much easier my life would be if I would just let someone like him in it. Someone to fix my mower, cut the grass, fix my back door which is somehow becoming detached from the house (I'm blaming Zeus, my beagle). Sometime's its just so exhausting to be so independent, so "I'm just fine on my own, thanks," so "I don't need anybody or anything." I am so tired. So tired of working so much, so tired of being alone all of the time. I hate the fact that I would love someone to just walk into my life and take care of me, but sometimes that's all I want. I suppose it would be better if there were some end in sight. Graduate school seems so far away. I don't know if I can stand another whole year of working like this.
