Bribery

As I'm actually working this morning, listening to Paul Westerberg and Lush...I just discovered that Rancid is coming to town on November 22.

Now, I love punk music. I love Rancid. Every they come to town some minor disaster happens that prevents me from going. This past summer I had tickets to see them at the Vans Warped Tour (along with some other incredible bands) when what should happen? My friend Stacy had to bow out because nobody would watch her daughter for her and her boyfriend was mad that she was going to a concert with me (like I'm such a bad influence, I can't BELIEVE she lets him tell her what to do!) and I couldn't find anyone to go with me that last minute.

It's going to be impossible to bribe someone into seeing this show with me. Even harder than it was to get try and find a pal to join me at Elvis Costello (I was unsuccessful). All of my friends either listen to club-type music or Nu-Metal, which is fine, but I'm desperate to go to this show. I need to hear Ruby Soho live...it has to happen.

I've been mentally drawing up my bribery plan to get someone to join me. Obviously I'd pay for the tickets...drinks...maybe even dinner, I'm thinking. But suddenly, a light bulb is blinking repeatedly in my head, and I'm starting to get sort of pissy.

I'm thinking about the weddings that I've been in, the baby showers I've thrown, the babysitting I've done, the listening to the crying over the phone about bad relationships...the lending of money...the list goes on and on. So now I'm thinking...what the FUCK is the problem with my friends that I have to bribe them into going to a concert with me when I do all their family-crap with them? It's not like they're too old to enjoy it, either. Their ages range from 23-27 for pete's sake, and they act like they're 50. I mean, the ONLY person who really has a reason to say 'NO' is a friend of mine who went with me to Everclear and got her nose broken and that was ENTIRELY not my fault. She should've been paying attention when she was standing that close to the pit, anyway.

So, here I am, seething for no reason.
