How to Waste a Workday Part II

OK, so maybe just MAYBE my family and friends are a bit right when they say that my Amazon Wish List is a teensy bit out of control.

I just took a few minutes away from my otherwise chaotic and busy workday (snort) to figure out exactly how much I'd have to spend if I purchased all 355 items at Amazon cost (sure, Half.com would be cheaper...more on that later).

It only amounts to $6,394.89. That's USD, not counting tax or shipping charges.

A few of my detractors have pointed out that it would take me years to read/watch/play with/listen to all of the items on my list. I laugh at this argument and boldly contend that I could make my way through every item on my list in a mere 365 days.

Do I smell a New Years' resolution? I mean, I think New Years' resolutions are pretty lame but I feel that this is a challenge I can't easily walk away from.

Now, $6K is a bit steep for me, as 'disposable income' is something I've read about but never had the experience of actually having. In one year I would have to spend $122.92 per week, not counting tax or S&H. However, if I dusted off my library card, spent some time on Half.com, sold some current dust-collectors at Half Price Books, and donated some plasma and organs (who needs two kidneys?...and eggs? what'll I need those for?) I think I could swing it. I'd rejoin NetFlix for the movies and go to the Record Exchange in search of CDs and video games as well. I'm thinking I could cut the cost by...optimistically...60%. So now we're talking only about $50.00 per week, which is manageable.

Now let's move to the time factor. Forget opportunity cost, don't worry, I have nothing better to do. At 355 items that's approximately 7 books/CDs/DVDs/video games to get through per week. Definitely possible. The only problem I see with this so far is the video game element. Those things usually take me awhile to complete...and I feel that I'd have to truly master every level/element of the game before actually crossing it off the list, so this could be rough.

Other considerations? Well, I'm already pretty fair skinned (less charitable friends may use the word "pasty"). I'm thinking that by this time next year I'd probably be translucent...but hey, that could be cool, right? I mean, true translucence can only by EARNED.

Oh, and I'd have to work less. 70 hour work-weeks would just not fly. Cut the sleep down to five hours a night and this just might be doable.

*Sigh*

And there, you see, went my whole afternoon.
