2004-10-07 3:17 PM California Indie So I’ve been listening to the California “indie” radio station listed on this week’s EW Must list, and while a lot of the music is great, I’m a little surprised that bands like Green Day, the Foo Fighters, Courtney Love, Prince, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, and…(clears throat)…RICK SPRINGFIELD qualify as “indie” music. I’m sure the “true” indie fans…(rolls eyes)…are freaking about this as well. Not to mention exposure to the more obscure indie bands that now have air time. I sense a whole lot of “I listened to them YEARS ago, before they were *popular*”s coming from the trendy-musical-elite. We know who they are.
Of course, one might hear comments like that from the not-so-trendy-musical-elite as well. This can be evidenced through my own experience when I was with my friend Frank and some “damn fool dj” made the fatal mistake of playing a Pantera song on the radio. I was digging in my purse for the aspirin as I feared he might have a heart attack, what with all the vein-popping indignation displayed by my dear pal. Course, I gave up on the “indie” radio station when another “damn fool dj” offered his Treatise on Tipping, basically saying that people who tip only encourage those in the service industry to expect tips and that he’s tired of having all these people with “their hands in his pocket.” He of course blamed the restaurant-owners for not paying their workers a decent wage, thereby passing off the cost of labor to the customer. OK, Dumb Ass. Do you assume that if owners had to pay servers more than the minimum $2.13 an hour for that your food and beverage prices would remain the same? Of course not, that’s why they’re called Restaurants and not Soup Kitchens. Do you want great service when you go out to eat? Yes? Then fucking pay for it. Otherwise, I’m pretty sure there are places called McDonald’s in California. Great, glad I cleared that up. Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
