Words-of-Mine

No matter what the day brings, deep down I know it really is a good day because I have the man of my dreams, a kitty who loves me, a roof over my head and I live in paradise.

Today is Super Bowl 46 for those of us who don't know Roman numerals, me included. The Super Bowl first played in 1966. I was 12. At that time, I didn't give a hoot about football. I do remember one winter where my cousins and I played football wearing ice skates on a pond in the bog. It was great until I fell head first hitting the ice with my front teeth. I am really glad I was smiling or I would have a strange scar on my upper lip.

During high school, I did try out to be a cheerleader but never made it. I was not that coordinated. However, I enjoyed attending the games. I even dated a football player. I don't remember now the position he played but it was true love for the time we courting.

I really didn't learn about football - the game - until my second husband volunteered to be a paramedic (he was one) for his alma mater. Every Saturday we would go to the games and sit at the 50 yard line about midway up. When he wasn't attending to someone who had fallen down or other stuff, he explained to me the game.

Since that time, I have come to love football games. During that marriage we would often attend the local high school football games. I do go one to the Kansas City Chiefs play in Arrowhead Stadium on a cold day in November. Our seats were down in one end and fairly high up. It just was not the same especially when the play was down at the other end of the field.

Since then, I have watched all my games on the telly. I love the instant replays until they replay them to distraction. I love being able to go to the bathroom without having to stand in line; unless, I am waiting for Michael to come out the bathroom. I don't have to pay an arm and a leg and my first-born child for nosh. Today, we are keeping it simple, popcorn, sodas, yogurt (trying to be healthy) and some fruit. We probably will have baked chicken for dinner.

I am watching all the pre-game highlights to get "in the mood." Pretty soon the popcorn will be popped and sodas poured and I will be yelling at the telly as the teams go head-to-head on the playing field of green.
