Here are updates on various and sundry topics:
Trial. I may or may not have some information regarding a plea bargain in the near future. Sorry, that's all I can say for now. Sentencing Hearing. At such time, if ever, as there is a sentencing hearing for Nancy, I plan on addressing her and the judge. I have drafted, re-drafted, and re-re-drafted my statement. I have already spent too much time on the statement, in hope against hope that it will someday provide me a dose of that slippery and elusive thing called closure. In a tribute to Peter's fondness for books, I even included an allusion to one of the most famous stories of one of Peter's favorite authors, Joseph Conrad...but I don't know if it will make the final cut. However, I can say that I will not be pulling punches...anyone in the courtroom that day will hear me speak about my unvarnished feelings on the matter in general and about Nancy in particular. I am simultaneously dreading and eagerly anticipating the opportunity to make that statement. Life Insurance. Took a big step towards an amicable resolution last week...more info soon, I hope. Peter's House. A trustee's sale has been scheduled for October 21 at 10:00 am, outside of the 2nd floor entry plaza of the City-County Building in Tacoma, Washington. Finally, at long last, the trustee's sale marks an important milestone on the road to relief for the neighbors--relief from the terrible eyesore and daily reminder of the horror. It is so rare for a property to actually get sold "on the courthouse steps" but in this case it actually might be. One interesting aspect of the foreclosure process is that with my name and address on the notices, I have started to get letters from the hard-money lenders with the happy, innocuous names--"Sunshine Funding” and the like. This is all moot, of course, for Peter's property...I don't want to acquire it and have no interest in borrowing money to pay off the bank and take possession of the property. I am not on title, just on the notices. If you read any of the letters offering to "help stop the foreclosure process," you may gain an interesting insight into the world of people who watched infomercials at three in the morning on how to make a fortune in real estate, and were curious enough to send away for the "risk free" package. Not all the real estate infomercials end up touting this process, but it's usually some variation on this main theme. And if you get further information on what these folks are offering (generally speaking, of course) it turns out that they will generously lend you money to bail you out of your predicament, at the low low rate of 26% interest, and btw, they will own you, your child, your dog and your house before they are done with you. And now, it's time to face the day. Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
