A few unrelated items today.
The Mormon lunatic fringe was in the news again. Can you imagine having 70 wives like Warren Jeffs, as described in this article? Jon Krakauer in his excellent book "Under the Banner of Heaven" discusses extensively the towns featured in this article. Disturbing to say the least, but important to remember that these are not mainstream Mormons. And Plamegate could make headlines as early as tomorrow, with potential indictments. Natch, you can bet on Rove and/or Libby being indicted by December 31. And finally, I would like to say a word about Rosa Parks, who just died. She was a paragon of grace and courage and she should never be forgotten. One my fondest memories from my alternative (i.e., hippie) school in the mid-1970's was putting on a short play on Rosa Parks. I was the bus driver; I enjoyed getting to play the bad guy, and really hammed it up. I'm sure my friends Buttons, Celery and Groovy were in the play also, but I don't remember their roles. As a first-grader, I remember being totally confused as to why someone would be asked to move to the back of the bus because of their skin color. I almost didn't believe it actually happened. Rest in peace, Rosa. Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
