I wasn't going to post today, but I saw a great website on Jed's blog:
Paint Your Own Pollock At the site, make sure to click and re-click your mouse and drag your mouse fast and slow. Of course, this reminds of the time when I was having dinner with one of our wealthiest partners and one of my colleagues. It was the first time I had met the partner...after a couple of drinks, we started talking about art, and I had just seen a Jackson Pollock at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. I then embarked on a diatribe about how anyone could possibly be such a sucker as to spend a few million bucks on a Jackson Pollock painting...I basically said that anyone that foolish deserves to loose their money on sham art that a trained monkey could do. You guessed the ending to this sad tale: turned out that our partner was on the board of some Washington DC art museum and of course, he was a Pollock collector. He had something like three or four original Pollocks that he had paid millions for. He actually took my horrible faux pas pretty well, and after I nearly passed out from embarrassment, we had a nice dinner. Here is a story from the BBC on a Pollock painting; it still boggles my mind, but that's what makes the world go around. Read/Post Comments (1) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
