Happy Thanksgiving!

I have been a regular reader of The Wall Street Journal since I was maybe 17 or 18, and reading the annual Thanksgiving editorials (they have published the same two on the day before Thanksgiving since 1961) has become a tradition for me.

It seems that every year, something else jumps off the page at me or I see new meaning or relevancy in something that I have now read about 20 times.

Here's what I wrote about it last year.

And today, this is what jumped off the page and into this thread:

"His countrymen cannot forget the savage face of war. Too often they have been asked to fight in strange and distant places, for no clear purpose they could see and for no accomplishment they can measure."

And: (You didn't really think I was going to leave you on a down note for Thanksgiving, did you?)

"We can remind ourselves that for all our social discord we yet remain the longest enduring society of free men governing themselves without benefit of kings or dictators. Being so, we are the marvel and the mystery of the world, for that enduring liberty is no less a blessing than the abundance of the earth."

Happy Thanksgiving To All!
