Last week on The Daily Show, they played a great clip from Fox News.

I am about 99% certain it was Bret Baier, Fox News Chief White House Correspondent. Here's what he said: "From the beginning, George W. Bush has been frequently ridiculed for his speaking style. Now, seven years later, he's credited with some of the most eloquent and visionary speeches ever delivered by an American President."

Wow. One sad thing about Fox News is that they can probably claim with accuracy that the above statement is true. If you look carefully at the wording, Fox says that "(Bush) is *credited* with..." Therefore, if someone, *anyone,* from Bush's wife to his daughters to his mom or dad, to an inmate at an insane asylum, credited Bush with "some of the most eloquent and visionary speeches ever delivered by an American President," then the Fox News statement is true.

This reminds me of another nutty thing that The Daily Show pointed out about Fox News once: Fox had an item on its "crawl" that said: "George W. Bush, best President ever?" And of course Fox can deny ever calling him the best president because it was framed in the form of a question.

Before any friends on the right toss back numerous examples of absurd media bias on the left, let me just say that very few news outlets can accurately claim no bias. Once again, my hat's off to the WSJ on this count: It is very, very rare in a WSJ *news* piece that you have any idea what side of the political fence the writer is on (in fact, my friend who was a writer there for many years says many of the news reporters are actually center-left to left). Despite the WSJ's hard-right editorial stance, their news operation seems to be remaining independent so far, and if that remains the case, I will happily eat my words: I said some very negative things when Rupert Murdoch acquired the WSJ.
