My thoughts and prayers today are with the people of the great country of Norway. No country and no person deserves to be terrorized like that.

The death toll so far of 17, on a percentage of population basis, would be equal to almost 1,000 people in the US. So that gives us an idea of the magnitude of this event in Norway.

One of my four grandparents had Norwegian parents; she was born in the US and identified strongly as someone with Norwegian heritage throughout her life. So even though one of my other grandparents was actually born in Russia (he passed before I was born), I have always thought of myself as a bit Norwegian. And if anyone asks about my heritage, I always say "Norwegian" first.

So as a human being and a part-Norwegian, my heart goes out to the people of Norway today. May peace be with you.
