Thanks to my Uncle Dobe, I received a box of priceless treasures today at work. Old family letters and pictures, saved over the decades. I haven't even opened 99% of it yet but literally the first letter I touched, randomly, was written on March 4, 1970, at 4:00 am, by my father to his brothers, four days after I was born. It's the original letter, in blue ink. Peter told me many years ago that the payment for the folks who delivered me was a "loaf of bread, a jar of honey, and a lid of pot."
** "Joyous Birthday," the letter says, "Joaquin Georeal Hartman was born Saturday morning 28 Feb 1970 at home, with a little help from his/our friends, a couple of doting parents, his 23-month old brother and a lot of joh-rei. [Note: Joh-rei was the mystical, divine healing light that my parents believed in, that was channeled by them and their fellow church members.] ...the labor was long and difficult, though not obstructed...he's a pisces with moon and neptune conjunct at midheaven in sagitarius and eleven degrees of aquarius rising...with jupiter retrograde in scorpio in the ninth house in opposition to saturn in taurus and trine the sun and mars in aries sextile to mercury rising...!!! ...so you can imagine we've all been kept pretty busy... 'lady madonna, children at your feet, i wonder how you manage to make ends meet' 'we get by with a little help from our friends' ...went through a hospital scene today taking Joaquin for a bilirubin and hemoglobin count, 'cause he's looking a little jaundiced--Marcy may have to stop nursing him for a few days until his liver is more developed...but we found out he's ok---he's BEAUTIFUL, healthy, has great ears, an outstanding nose & wise and alert eyes, a strong grasp, a penetrating cry... [then the letter goes back to the moment of birth] ...then i tied off the cord and cut it (what a privilege & honor!) and after we'd aspirated his nose...we welcomed him to the planet with joh-rei and tears of joy." ** And speaking of tears of joy, I had a serious lump in throat while reading this letter, and simultaneously remembering the joy of Avery's birth. I tried to read a part of it to Holly on the phone awhile ago but could not get the words out. Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
