Dispatches from the City of Angels

I'm a writer and humorist living in and writing about Los Angeles. You can catch my novel LOSING CLEMENTINE out March 6 from William Morrow. In the meantime, feel free to poke around. Over at my website you can find even more blog entries than I could fit here, as well as a few other ramblings. Enjoy and come back often.

The Cheese Stands Alone

Shhh...Do you hear that?

Me neither, and it is AWESOME.

Ever since my husband started his own company, he's been working from home. And unless I'm on set, I work from home. I also live in my home, and I let him live here, too, which means I am never alone.

It turns out that's not necessarily a recipe for rational behavior.

Me: "OMG, would you please-for-the-love-of-all-that-is-holy stop that?"

Him: "Stop what?"

Me: "Stop making that noise!"

Him: "What noise?"

Me: "THAT NOISE."

Him: "This noise?"

Me: "Yes."

Him: "That's me breathing."

Me: "Well, stop. It's annoying me."

This morning he left on a business trip, and I was so excited to have the place to myself I voluntarily fell out of bed at 5:30 to drive him to the airport, which is really 4:30 because "hey, screw you daylight savings."

In my dazed and sleepless fog, I only missed my exit twice, exits five minutes from my home, which I have driven hundreds of times and could recreate out of popsicle sticks and paste from memory. Not that this bothers me. I would've driven him across the country myself if it meant sleeping in the middle of the bed.

The world is my oyster, and I'm eating Cocoa Puffs for dinner.
