HERE IS ONE FROM RANDOMTHOUGHTS

ok, so there's this girl hedgehog, harry (short for harriet), who ate a little too much in preparation for her winter hibernation and was forced to take a little nap in the middle of nowhere before she could get home. while she was asleep lots of human-based litter was blown into her by the wind, and various bits of paper, wrappings and general fluff stuck to her spikes (correct word??).

meanwhile, bazza the badger has forgotten what his home is called and where he lives, and is traipsing round the area trying to remember. he stumbles into harry who is busy trying to remove the rubbish that has attached itself. some bits are just too awkward to reach.

despite being upset about feeling homeless, bazza offers to help harry get all cleaned up. as he does, harry asks him why he's upset. he explains about not being able to remember where or what his home is. despite still feeling very sleepy, harry offers to help him look.

so off they waddle. one by one they encounter other animals and ask them what their homes are called, hoping that one of them will help bazza remember. all the while harry is getting more and more sleepy. but they push on, bazza still picking bits of fluff off harry.

eventually, when they've almost given up and harry's on the verge of falling asleep, they stumble upon a hole in the ground. from that hole they hear movement. harry, yawning so wide, tries one last time and calls down into the hole, hoping the inhabitant can help.

she's so tired she hasn't recognised her own home, but her mother pops out her head and says, "there you are, we were beginning to worry" etc. finally falling asleep now, harry lets his mum take him inside and put him to bed.

meanwhile, bazza's still outside, still lonely, lost and confused. even harry couldn't help. then harry's mum reappears and says, "just before harry fell asleep she told me about your problem." then harry's mum explains/tells him what his home is, and where he can find his parents.

bazza gives her a careful hug and happily sets off for home.

what do you think? i think it's a nice little story. plus it includes "issues" regarding friendship, homes & homelessness, learning re different animals and their homes, littering being bad, being part of a community..
