Plain Banter
. . . lies about science fiction, and everything else.

When the writer becomes the center of his attention, he becomes a nudnik. And a nudnik who believes he's profound is even worse than just a plain nudnik. -- Isaac Bashevis Singer

Olympic Moments, part 8

The time-delay thing. I call my mom to see how things are going back in NYC. She asks if I'm following the Olympics. We talk a bit about the opening ceremonies and some other things, and I mention that it's too bad that Thorpe beat Phelps in the swimming race today, ending Phelps attempt to tie Mark Spitz's record. My mom is watching the Games on TV and says, "I thought that race wasn't until tonight." Stupid me. I've already heard the results on NPR and CNN Headline News, and seen the story on Google News, all at my job, shortly after the event happened, but NBC is going to show it during prime time.

Those of us who don't want to know the results before watching the prime time broadcast are going to have to work pretty hard to stay clueless.
