Plain Banter
. . . lies about science fiction, and everything else.

When the writer becomes the center of his attention, he becomes a nudnik. And a nudnik who believes he's profound is even worse than just a plain nudnik. -- Isaac Bashevis Singer

Olympic Moments, part 17

The flag-shawl. Seconds after the soccer gold medal game ended, the American women all have USA flags in their hands. Not little ones on sticks, but full-sized ones like you'd run up a flagpole, perhaps 4 x 6 feet each. At first, they wave them around a lot, but after a few minutes, most of them drape the flags about their shoulders and wear it like a cape. Later the same night (Thursday) the US relay team does the same thing.

Displays of patriotism are OK, but I'm pretty sure that wearing an actual flag as an item of clothing is considered by many to be disrespectful.
