Native Americans hunted for survival.
They praised the animal.
Revered it.
They used rudimentary tools to complete the kill
and used every part of the animal
skin to bones
hoof to tail.
They thanked the animal for its death
which made their life possible.

Modern hunters hide in trees
wearing camoflauge and covering their scent.
Coaxing deer to their doom with automatic feeders
and buckets of sweet corn.
High powered rifles with long-range scopes
do their dirty work for them
Keep their hands clean.
Bragging about their kills, they stuff the corpse
and hang it on the wall
So everyone can marvel at their achievement
of killing a deer
with a rifle
with a scope
while wearing camoflauge
and hiding in a tree.

Maybe we are really the animals.
