When I was in 8th grade, we had to wear uniforms to school, which consisted of a skirt with a polo shirt. At the time, most of the girls would wear gym shorts under our skirts. I'm not sure of the reason for this, perhaps it was because we were expected to climb on jungle gyms and swing on the swings while desperately trying to keep our lady parts covered from the boys view.

On the side of our playground there was a large bank of air conditioning units that were completely encased in chain link fencing. Right behind those air conditioning units was the windows to our classroom.

One afternoon my friends and I were sitting on the fences covering the A/C units during recess, talking about boys and unicorns and stickers, and whatever else 8th grade girls talk about. (The conversations are rarely important or life changing.) The bell rang to go back to class, and my friends all jumped down from the fence and walked back to class. As I attempted to make the jump, my shorts got caught on the fence and i was suspended several feet off the ground, with no way to get myself down.

I dangled there for a bit, kicking and calling for someone to come back and help me. A kid from a younger grade walked by with a friend and stopped for a second to point at laugh at me, and then went on their way.

After a few minutes, I realized nobody was going to help me, so I had to bang on the window of the classroom to get my teachers attention. Of course, when I did that, the entire class turned to look, and then they got a lovely view of the teacher having to come lift me off the fence, and my shorts, which now had a lovely rip along my ass.

Lovely.

I don't know why I'm sharing this, but I can laugh about it now. You can too.
