I woke up this morning, racing around to get ready. I had to go to traffic court. In Bellaire. If I've ever even had the slightest notion that the City of Houston Municipal Courts are confusing, the city of Bellaire court system is ten times worse.

I don't believe anyone from Bellaire has actually been to a real, working court, so I'll just have to assume that they aren't completely sure how it's supposed to be run. They had us form several, seemingly endless lines that did nothing except block all the walking space in the courtroom.

The way we were lined up was not based on alphabetical order, which usually puts me somewhere in the middle, but from the back of the rows to the front. Thanks to my promptness into court this morning, I was seated in the second row. This put me almost at the very back of our lining up order, and I sat stewing about that for a few minutes as I saw the people who came in as they were locking the doors get in and out of there in about 15 minutes while I was stuck there for over an hour.

If I ever have court in Bellaire again, I'm going to make sure I'm the last person in that courtroom.

I spent the rest of the day at work, simultaneously trying to be productive, and trying hard not too move too much so as not to aggravate pain due to my broken ribs. I ended up having to move anyway. In a twisted stroke of clumsiness I swung my chair around and knocked my knee into an open file cabinet.

The pain searing through my kneecap really took my mind off my ribs, as I had trouble walking without pain for several minutes after that.

My foot went to sleep on me a few hours later, but that is a story for another day...
