Australian Constitution silent on education

I posted this at http://www.electiontracker.net as a commentary on the Australian election.

I am confused as to why education (and health) have become such an issue in this Federal election.

Here is the link to the part of the Australian Constitution dealing with the powers of the Federal parliament.

PLEASE find the bit where it gives the Federal government the power to fund schools. Any schools. Or, for that matter, health / hospitals / nurses / doctors / etc.

I think what you will find is that the Federal parliament has managed to find a niche for funding of these matters, whereas it's actually a STATE responsibility to fund education and health.

For comment. Please!!!

Peter
