I wonder whether actor Rock Hudson ever played the game called Cricket?

As I write this piece, there is a game in progress in the the One-Day International series between the Cricket teams of Australia and England. (see these links: One-Day Internationals in England in 2005; Australians in England in 2005; Australian Crisket team)

Anyway, as someone who has watched most team ball sports will know, it's often of advantage to be able to 'swing' the ball in the air, typically by imparting spin.

Just a few moments ago, I was listening to the commentators on the TV coverage of the England-Australia match and the commentator said something to the effect of, "That ball was very Rock Hudson: It seemed straight* but it wasn't." *

So much for political correctness in the media.
