When My alarm went off at 5:45 this morning, I nearly died of fright. I had no idea what it was, or where, or why. Finally, after listening to it for awhile, I came too. I had to be at work by 7:00, and it was time to get up. Not fun. I got off a bit early, and came home to jump into the pool. Okay, so I got in slowly, as the water was a bit chilly. Brittany and Caitlyn joined me. We got the current flowing into a big circle pretty fast, and Brittanys Blue Healer Dog, Ellie, was running the opposite way, making me a bit dizzy. She was yapping and running, and having a great time, but causing us to have headaches. Somehow, she got through the fence, and into the neighbors backyard, and could not figure out her way back. We decide to throw a ball over there, so Mickey would go get it, and show Ellie the way. The best laid plans...So the frisbee (we could reach it) goes over the fence, and Mickey takes off quick, simultainiously the neighbors two dogs (both Akitas) come running after the puppy, and Ellie turns tail and runs towards the driveway/road. I did not know she could run that fast! WOW! With a big dog coming, she really turns on the jets! Brittany and Mike both jumped out, and went to help. They say that as soon as Ellie got onto our yard, she turned around, and growled at the big dog, while that dog had already turned and headed back. Mickey was stuck in the hole in the fence, and Mike had to help her. All the while, I thought I was going to laugh my head off. We got things together, and heading to the condo for dinner with Alisha and Chris. She made steak fajitas, BBQed. Chris's parents were there, and we really like these folks. Aurelia was going a bit nuuty, as when she was asked, "where is grandma/grandpa?", the place was crawling with us. She sure is entertaining. I asked aloud, "what did we used to do to keep us busy?" We will stay pretty close to home tomorrow, and do a BBQ here, for anyone that shows up. Loads of food...We will do the actual celebrating of his birthday when we are not so concerned about the dog. Mickey is on sedatives, and hiding out in the back bathroom. It is a lot better around here this year than ever. Our small town has banned all fireworks, buy we still hear them. We have had Mickey since fall of 2001, and we have not enjoyed the displays since that summer. I swear I will once again celebrate with the country, and tip a glass of the bubbly to her one day...one, sad day...She is the best dog we have ever had, with this one little problem. Totally terrified this time of year. |
