A "G-Rated Journal" That Even My Mother Can Read (because she does!)

Effervescence is a state of mind. It's about choosing to bring sunshine to the day.
Every person I meet matters.

If it's written down, I know it (If it's not written down, I don't know it)
If it's color-coded, I understand it (If it's not color-coded, I don't understand it)

Ballad for THL Eilidh

Thu Jun 15 - I told one friend in email today about how things were going, "Things are 99.5% great. Today was a 0.5% day." Without any explanation, it was just a rough day today.

But. This makes an email on one of my mailing lists that much sweeter. Duchess Natalya writes poetry on a whim (and apparently on even less than that some days!). She wrote a poem about me and posted it to our Bardic list. Thanks Nancy, I really needed this. You rock. Here goes folks: Enjoy.

Ballad for THL Eilidh

A lady fair is often seen
In festive carriage blue
Along the shore she journeys far
To aid the White Star crew.

Sometimes the sea is on her left
Sometimes it's on the right
Sometimes she greets the morning sun --
O where is Eilidh Swann tonight?

In Darachshire she spends some time
Amongst the artists there
She spins, she paints, she cooks a bit
And music does she share.

Sometimes the sea is on her left
Sometimes it's on the right
Sometimes she greets the morning sun --
O where is Eilidh Swann tonight?

South down the coast she wends her way
Twixt fret and seraph bright
Her horses fly on silent hooves
Cross clouds of misty light.

Sometimes the sea is on her left
Sometimes it's on the right
Sometimes she greets the morning sun --
O where is Eilidh Swann tonight?

The Lyonbard arrives at port
So happy to be home
In fields of gentle sleep she rests,
In dreams, she now can roam.

Sometimes the sea is on her left
Sometimes it's on the right
Sometimes she greets the morning sun --
Sweet dreams, sweet dreams for Eilidh Swann tonight!

Natalya

Extra notes on some of the text references: (1) "THL" stands for "The Honorable Lady" -- this is my title/rank in the SCA. (2) Darachshire is Ventura County (3) "Twixt fret and seraph bright" -- The "fret" is an interlocking knot used in heraldic shield designs, and represents the Santa Clarita area, or the Barony of Altavia. This geography is also criss-crossed with Los Angeles freeways, so the fret is a visual pun on all the freeway interchanges. The "seraph" is an angel used in the heraldic shield design for the Los Angeles group, the Barony of the Angels (or "City of Angels" of course) (4) I'm the "Lyon Bard" in the Barony of Lyondemere, which is also the Port of Long Beach. We, of course, have a mer-lion (mermaid, mer-lion, get it?) on our heraldic shield device.
