At Home, Waiting on the Car

At Home, Waiting on the Car - Why exactly am I at home on a work day? *sigh* My car was rev'ing funny last night on the way home, and sluggish and weird this morning. I'd gone maybe half a mile, thought better of it, turned around, and dropped it off at my car guys. We'll see what comes of it.

Cooking This Morning - Before I found out I wasn't going anywhere, I'd reluctantly squelched my laziness and did some cooking this morning. I'd thawed some ground turkey several days ago, and purchased a few groceries on New Year's. I'd cooked probably four ounces of black-eyed peas, and still had half of them in the fridge. And after dinner with Rae, I still had some leftover brown rice. So I threw the rice and peas in a skillet to reheat them, and started browning the turkey. I had to add a dash of oil since the meat was too lean to really brown nicely, and tossed in a tiny bit of soy sauce to both skillets. Once the meat was cooked, I threw the rice and peas over top, to simmer together, and chopped up some bok choy for the now empty skillet. Once those were bright green and delicious, mixed them all together and portioned them into little plastic boxes. Did some dishes in between each step, made a pot of coffee, packed some crackers and chips to put in the cupboards at work, added a tangerine to the cooler for lunch, and packed the car. Total kitchen time: 30 minutes, total morning prep: an hour from entering the kitchen to having the car packed and on the road. Three meals done.

Now that the car is in the shop and I'm back home (sigh), the lunch and dinner boxes are back in the fridge, I finished my breakfast box of food (which was totally delicious, by the way), and have only finished one of the coffee mugs. Oh, and I put some lentils to soak in the fridge this morning, so they'll be ready to cook and pack this afternoon. I'm thinking about putting together some curry possibly. I have lots of Indian spices and ingredients in the cupboards, some fresh veggies, some tofu, and a really good cook book.

Adrienne is going to send me the address of her favorite kosher butcher, and I'm going to pick up some lamb this week. Several internet leads suggested I might be looking at a B12 deficiency, and since I know I don't eat beef (and haven't in nine years), I think red meat is very likely an issue. Just adding chicken and turkey back into my regular diet might not be enough, and since I adore lamb then I should go buy some.

I did remember to take a multi-vitamin this morning. My tongue is definitely less numb than it was a week ago, and breakfast tasted mostly perfect. The variety in textures was actually very nice too, with the bok choy, the brown rice, the black-eyed peas, and the ground turkey. Great combo.

So, now to some afternoon computer work and waiting by my phone to hear what's up with my car.
