Dark Horse
The life and times of a meditative horse trainer.

I'm a second generation born and raised Alaskan. I've very proud of that, my roots are here. While I want to see as much of the world as I can, I want to raise my children here. I'm a dedicated student of the horse, of life and I love to learn. I try to leave no stone unturned in my life. Nothing is good if taken at just face value there is always more, to people, an animal, a thought, a dream. I'm an intensity junky, I live my life with passion as if every action were my very last, and I love the colors that this passion has brought to me. It's my hope to share this small window of myself with my readers. If you surfed in please make yourself at home and stay a while, if your one of my loved one's who are here, I love you for all you have educated me in to make my life this amazing.

You are what you eat... Eewww.... - March 2005

I just returned from lunch whereupon I heard a mother tell her child that didn’t want to finish his lunch that if he finished his milk he could go, as you may understand children tend to be much more open and honest. Knowing what I know about an open mind and milk combined I wanted to shake the mother violently.

Did you know that domestic cats and humans are the only mammals that are never weaned? Did you know that human produced milk is 1% to1 ½ % protein, any amount over that can trigger colic in the child? Colic being the stomachs reaction to quite literally being stopped dead in its tracts trying to digest too much protein. To further that thought – cow milk is 18% protein! The biggest problem with milk is man's attempt to improve on Mother Nature. First we kill the milk with pasteurization. Then, we try to get a more consistent product and increase shelf life with homogenization. Then to make it even worse, we take an acid food and increase the acidity by taking the fat out. I’d like to go even grosser into the subject to say that the reason why the milk must be pasteurized is due to the fact that the udders of cows are infected and cows spend the majority of their lives with a low grade antibiotic as a top dressing to their food.

Our immune system, the body's defense system, has to deal with these substances and is in danger of becoming overloaded. The liver is the filter for the whole body, and when it must handle too much residue it becomes less efficient. The liver sends the excess to the lymphatic system, which is part of our immune system. The result is often overproduction of histamine, a substance that helps control and destroy what the body identifies to be a "foreign invader". This histamine response causes sinus drainage, watery eyes, asthma attacks, skin eruptions and rashes, etc. Proper immune function can only happen when your liver and lymphatic system are cleaned and detoxified. Your liver is like the oil filter in you car - if it is clogged and dirty, the car won't keep running for long without major problems. Given what we just reviewed with overload of protein, backup of indigestible calcium due to lack of Magnesium it makes quite a bit of sense that Americans have higher rate of allergies in children every year!!

Ok I have to finish off this rant with one last bit. Being a vegetarian everyone is constantly telling me I need more protein in my diet, which becomes more than annoying at times. Proteins are the most complex of all known biological substances. They can be anything from single albumin to DNA strands in genetic coding. Enzymes and hormones are primarily protein, so one can see that protein is very necessary in vital functions of the body.
There is a critical balance of protein, and the standard American diet contains far too much protein. Too much protein is the single most dangerous stimulant to the body! Most of our protein consumption comes from meat -- red meat, chicken, fish, pork, etc. All flesh that comes from animals is acid.

The body gets rid of this excess acid first by a buffering process using bicarbonate ions from the body's reserve of available organic sodium. (This is not to be confused with sodium chloride from table salt. Organic sodium comes from fruits and vegetables). When you run out of sodium reserve the body will dump acid in the urine creating a weak acid, producing an acid salt. The more meat you eat, the more sodium you lose from the body's alkaline reserve. If all the sodium is used up, the body goes to the bones for calcium as the next best mineral with which to neutralize acid, until you have osteoporosis and/or arthritis. Foods that are high in organic sodium are celery, zucchini and cucumbers.

Ok some of you may wonder where the heck this comes from; it comes from my lil’monkey mind that goes a million miles a minute, and fortunately my fingers keep up. I love you all dearly so eat your veggies!
