Dark Horse
The life and times of a meditative horse trainer.

I'm a second generation born and raised Alaskan. I've very proud of that, my roots are here. While I want to see as much of the world as I can, I want to raise my children here. I'm a dedicated student of the horse, of life and I love to learn. I try to leave no stone unturned in my life. Nothing is good if taken at just face value there is always more, to people, an animal, a thought, a dream. I'm an intensity junky, I live my life with passion as if every action were my very last, and I love the colors that this passion has brought to me. It's my hope to share this small window of myself with my readers. If you surfed in please make yourself at home and stay a while, if your one of my loved one's who are here, I love you for all you have educated me in to make my life this amazing.

The Wind in your Hair...

I like my grandparents and parents before me, certainly don’t wish for wealth, and easy life and fame. All I ask of this life of mine is love, laughter and more wild horses to tame. Me….

Ever have those moments when you feel the wind lift your hair off your face and you feel really free? You are charged with life, inspiration, your body doesn’t feel its physical pains and you really love your life? I do all the time, and if you’re breathing I’m sure you have as well. It’s about time after the long cold dark winter that I feel this way, it’s been a long time since I’ve wanted to crawl out of my pj’s and leap onto the back of my horse, and take off at a dead run with the wind in my hair. Most of my “wind in my hair” moments occur when I’m around horses, it isn’t that I don’t lead a tremendously happy life because I do, it’s just that being in their presence really makes me feel alive and in the moment, being alongside my four footed friends gets all of my neurons firing and release all of those endorphins into my bloodstream. So you could say I get hopped up on horses, they are my crack, though while not as bad for me health wise I’m certain more expensive!

Not to mention all this gets my reticular activating system (RAS) in my brain fully charged to do what I love to do, and that’s motivate. Mostly what I do as a teacher isn’t really teaching much, what I do is motivate. I’m a motivational speaker in chaps who wears spurs. Oh wait… That doesn’t sound quite right does it? Anyways, what I mainly try to do when I “teach” is teach people to find, notice and seek out those “wind in your hair” moments. Now if you’re a guy reading this bear with me, as that might sound cheesy to you but you get the point of what I’m saying right? In case you don’t remember what the RAS is it’s a group of cells at the base of your skull that are like a little control center for organizing information and input from outside sources. It also gives you little red flags when you encounter something that’s important that you need to pay attention to. Don’t you know some people who seem rather RAS deficient? Anyways that’s a topic for another day.

I try to free people and give them those moments so their horse can lead them to a path of healing that goes beyond just learning to ride, but help them live better lives. I see it most in correlation with tears when I teach, and not all my clients are the crying sort of gals, but at least twice a year these tough as nails gals are moved to a place of tears and what's so cool about that is after they cry, they FEEL more! Some part of them is opened up and freed.

Today we are operating under a Gemini moon, Gemini is usually the twin sign, there’s a good and a bad side, obviously you see which I chose to channel today despite my yet again horrendous dreams from last night. Some time ago I wrote a piece called the Animate Archetype of a Woman; it's filed away in the archives on the first page. It was in relation to bringing your wild woman within forward in more of your life activities. It’s really the same as my wind in the hair thought, only I plan to take this wind thing much farther as it’s my idea and not the basis of some therapist.

We know from science that very much of what we are and our actions are not necessarily determined by our DNA. There’s the whole nature v. nurture business but I really don’t want to get into that right now. Really what I want to focus on is how we can change our lives for the better, be more balanced, more centered and more “present” in our human experience. We know that when we feel a certain way our brain releases a cocktail of proteins for the cells to receive that makes us “experience” this feeling. So every so often your cells regenerate, hopefully more often than not often. Cells will generate to imitate the cell before it or around it or in tune with what’s being released. So really you can heal yourself one cell at a time. Isn’t that a beautiful thought?

Back to the Wind in your Hair… I like to motivate people to have this feeling, and all of us get in different ways. None of us feel we get to play as often as we wish, there’s work, chores, family, etc. every one of these are excuses! Learn to become a pro at the minute meditation, imagine yourself in your favorite place on the planet for one full minute, or stop for just one minute and take in a beautiful sight, just ONE minute and I guarantee you that you will feel the wind in your hair. Until next time… I’m braving the darkness and cold for a snowy wild ride on one of my horses - I need to feel the Wind in My Hair.
