Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

All over the place

And another $100+ to see if Grimoire is having bladder problems again. (We’ll get results tomorrow.) Meanwhile, Charlie probably needs to have her teeth cleaned. I can take her in for a free check, but I’m pretty sure she needs it. I need to sell some more stories or something to pay for all of this…

Teresa’s coming to visit! We’re hashing out the details, but late February is the target. Yay!

Today’s calendar model also has a belly piercing. Blah.

Ken’s working on the library, huzzah! One set of shelves (out of four) is up, and the second is in progress. Then we have to cut and stain more uprights and shelves (or maybe just shelves; I can’t remember). Then there’s lights, trim, etc. Oh, and the shelf around the top and the magazine rack. But all those things can wait until later. With the main shelves up, I can start unpacking lots of books.

Meanwhile, I spent about 2 hours getting our Quicken files back in order—typing back in several months’ worth of transactions that were lost, then reconciling after each month, for two checking accounts. At least it’s all done now, and I can run reports for taxes (I can deduct books, movies, DVDs/videos, cable, subscriptions, and office supplies. Bwahaha!).

In other news, last night my father fell down icy steps and broke two ribs. Scary. He could have hurt himself a lot worse. I talked to my parents only yesterday morning…. My dad will be 75 next month, which is entirely inconceivable to me. There’s no way he can be that old.

I didn’t hit my goal of copy editing today, what with everything else, but I got a chunk done.

Yesterday, I drove up to Oxnard because Morgana was teaching a workshop on Anglo-Saxon costuming, in preparation for this year’s Black Oak Lodge (which has a Beowulf theme). As usual, she gave a brilliant presentation, although she hadn’t been feeling well and thus hadn’t had time to make handouts. I took lots of notes, which I started transcribing last night.

I got up there early and helped her get things organised, then sipped tea and read whilst she finished her own notes. I was starving by the end of it, so I grabbed a burger, then got gas and headed back south. I got home about 2 hours before Ken did. We ended the day by curling up in the dark and watching the latest “Angel”.

Still no writing. It’s driving me a little nuts. But, I know this week is going to be busy; Ken leaves on Sunday and we have lots to do on the house, the car, etc. If it has to wait until next week, so be it. I may have some time tomorrow, while Ken’s working on the library (Dennis is coming over to help), but I have copy editing, and an In Box full of e-mails, and more work on the submissions file facing me as well. Mrph.

I waffle between feeling happy and productive, and getting maudlin and stressed because Ken leaves next week. I’ll even out eventually.
