Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Moving forward, finally

I put my nose to the proverbial grindstone this morning and I feel better now that I’ve accomplished a few things and crossed them off my To Do list.

I’m planning a writing dare with two OCW friends—Phaedra and Annie—who are also finalists in the Brava novella contest and haven’t written their novellas, either. That should help with my writing slump. We plan to start on 1 November (after the party, Samhain, etc.).

I’ve also had an idea for another SCE proposal, and I’m doing some research so I can polish up a Battletech story that’s already been preliminarily accepted. Not actual writing done, but I’m gritting my teeth and soldiering on.

I started scrubbing my study walls with bleach, as there’s some spots that look suspiciously like mildew (they had 250-lb filing cabinets in front of them for the last 40 years, so who knows), but I (a) ran out of bleach and (b) ended up with holes in my rubber gloves. It doesn’t help that breathing bleach fumes made me slightly nauseous. Luckily there isn’t much left to do, and then I get to start painting. (And then I get to rip up the hideous carpet!)
