Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Best. Wordcount. Ever.

Words Written: “Pledges of Allegiance”: 4730

I’m watching a gentle sunset over the ocean from my window as I frantically work on the Battlecorps story. It keeps wanting to get longer. I got less than a thousand words done on it yesterday (my goal had been 3K). I got a slow start, and then also had to read a novel proposal. Ack.

Ken arrived last night just after 10 p.m. See, he was originally scheduled to work in Portland this week, and he was going to swing by on Sunday on his way up, to come to lunch and then spend some time talking to Kris and Dean because he had some questions about the business side of this ridiculous career that I’ve chosen. (Or, more rightly, chose me.) He understands that I need to write, and he understands the work that goes into it, but he was less clear on the next steps to my making a living at it.

But then the contract work in Portland got moved out a few weeks. He decided to go up to Sacramento on Saturday anyway, to go on a group ride with friends in that area on Sunday (he stayed with a friend Saturday night). And in the end, he decided to head up here anyway. Dean and Kris spent quite some time talking to him. It was a good refresher course for me, too. Dean and Kris rock, have I mentioned that lately?

It’s wonderful that Ken’s here, but ack! Deadlines!

Actually, he’s spent a fair amount of today napping while I’ve been working. He, Phaedra, and I went out for a late lunch and then to the Internet café, but the latter was closed. Phooh.
