Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

What's not to love?

Words Written: Angelika 0; “Subtle” 1576; “After the Rain” 1852

I’m feeling good today. No clear idea why, as we went to bed pretty late and got up early (Ken’s doing a bike maintenance day with his BMW buddies up here—he swears he’s going to supervise and let them do all the work. Hmmm…), and I’m actually pretty tired. But I’ve already written, had critiqued, and mailed the third antho story this week. One more to go, in the erotica list, anyway. I have a vague idea. Just have to type it up. I’m toying with a fantasy story, too. I had an idea, but I think the idea is bigger than the antho. Erm. How to explain? I’ve sold to the publisher before, and although they pay reasonable rates, I wasn’t pleased with the outcome. Cheap-looking product, with lots of errors. But it would be nice to write (and sell) some fantasy, since I’ve been so focused on erotica and romance lately. OTOH, I need to get more done on the novel, too!

I’ve also worked out (30 mins treadmill) and popped out to the store for more milk, because I wasn’t going to get through the day without more tea. I’ve cut down on caffeine far enough that it’s the ritual of the thing rather than the drug that gives me the boost and the comfort. Oh, and I’ve done a bit of work, although I really ought to do more.

(A bit later.) Fourth story written, second one of the day! It’s off to Teresa, dauntless critiquer. Now a crit of one of her stories, a bit more ABC-CLIO work, and then I’ll see how much I can pound out on the novel before Ken gets back.

Ack! As I was working on the “day job” (for lack of a better term), dinner plans started being made, and although I had another hour or so before someone was picking me up, it all ended up being devoted to day job stuff (which I still didn’t finish). By the time we got back (we went to Hooters. Hot wings and hot girls. What’s not to love? Although my wings could have been hotter, and the hottest girl in the place was a customer. She had classic Irish features—the pale skin, the shape of the profile and the eyes, the long curly red hair that I despised her for because I want my hair to look like that), it was late and I was tired from not getting enough sleep. I submitted the second story after getting crits from Teresa and making some changes, and then Ken and I watched Spiderman 2, which is officially the talkiest superhero action movie I’ve ever seen. Having already understood much about the movie during an intense “story versus plot” discussion at a writing workshop, I find myself wondering if it was better in the theatre, where the action/effects would have been more impressive. Ah well. It did cause a new phrase to enter my life: “Ohhh no. That’s going to end in tears.” Hee.
