Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Maybe I just shouldn’t say that I have a lot to do, because the Universe might be listening. I lost a good chunk of yesterday to a headache. I did get some ABC-CLIO work done, and dealt with a fair amount of e-mail, and also some SCA stuff. But that was about it. No writing, no reading Phae’s novel. At about 9 p.m., I was seriously tempted to curl up in bed with Afalwen and read her novel, but I knew deep down that if I didn’t try to get more work done, I’d lie awake thinking about it. So I pressed on ‘til midnight. It still took me a while to get to sleep, but this morning I had some nice Lawrence dreams, so it’s not all bad. ;-)

Gah. How can it be nighttime already? How can it be bedtime already? (And yes, I do have to actually go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight—I have to drive Ken to the airport tomorrow [thank goodness it’s only the Oxnard Airport, about a mile away] and pick up milk on the way home so I can have tea and not be grumpy for a 9 a.m. work conference call.)

I got a good chunk of ABC-CLIO work done today, and no longer feel panicked and guilty about taking time off. I exercised, despite the fact that I did something nasty to my back this morning just sitting in bed (actually, Ken just cracked it in such a way that maybe I won’t have to go to the chiropractor’s tomorrow after all). I did a bunch of little stuff, which sounds lame, but I really did get things crossed off my list. Including SCA stuff, because have I mentioned I’m an effing idiot and guilted myself into running Anniversary Tourney in May, because nobody else would volunteer?. Here I go again, pulling an event out of my cute butt in a couple of months. Sigh. I only agreed after Ken promised to handle actually obtaining a site (because for some reason I despise doing that—I really don’t know why) and a relative newcomer who’s very smart and enthusiastic has become our minion and wants to learn how to run an event. I’ve convinced her that her alternate persona will be named Catherine de Minion. Because there really is a town called Minion in Cornwall, and I firmly believe that those aren’t tin mines, they’re minion mines. (I don’t know if the name is period, though, and this is me saying right here and now that I don’t have time to go research it, no no no.) There’s also a town just over the Channel in France called Overlord. And you know those overlords came over to Cornwall to get their minions.

Right. Where was I? Yeah, stuff I did today. Ken and I also got various paperwork and things sorted before his trip; things we need to do together. We also watched our latest Netflix movie, Mona Lisa Smile. That may be Julia Roberts’ best movie since Mystic Pizza. (Although I haven’t seen Erin Brockovich, which reminds me, I need to put that on our Netflix list…) Oh, and I made a really good (albeit somewhat white trash) meatloaf, which we had with baked potatoes, steamed broccoli, and salad.

I did some editing on Chloe chapters 1 and 2. Thus far, I haven’t read any of Phae’s novel, which I have to have done by tomorrow night. Eargh. Good thing I’m getting up early.

Eargh.
