Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Sales, submissions, sleepy

Words Written: 0
Exercise: um…

Two more sales! The second and third of the four stories I wrote during my weeklong writing dare in Portland. This makes me feel far less annoyed at not getting more done on Angelika during that time!

And I’ve gotten notice that another story has passed the first round and is short listed. It’s not a sale, but it’s better than a rejection! (Alas, I also had one of those today, too. Onwards!)

Teresa and I finalized the synopsis for Chloe yesterday, re-named it Out of the Frying Pan, and it and the first 10K are off to the editor. Phew! We’re having a blast with this one—it’s in a madcap, breathless voice that can be a pain to maintain, but when it works, it’s so much damn fun!

Today I’ll chat with Sarah about ALNM, and see if we can’t hammer the latest version of the proposal into shape. (Update: She didn’t call, which probably means she wasn’t feeling well—she’s been home with the flu. We’ll catch up Sunday evening or Monday.)

I didn’t get any writing done yesterday—got hit with a headache in the afternoon, and had to deal with work stuff, and then Catherine, our minion (we figured out how to say “Rhieinwen’s Bitch” in Welsh, but I’d have to check on the spelling [eg]), came over for dinner and event planning. And then it became very late.

The headache came back today, so I was groggy and slow until late afternoon, which meant I got very behind. I’m feeling better now, though, and managed to get some work stuff done, and make dinner.

We’re off to Black Oak Lodge tomorrow (first SCA event in 6 months—BOL is very special to us and there’s no way we could miss it). We’re not packed, largely because Ken has been busy tuning up the bike and putting the intercom in the new helmets (in preparation for leaving on Monday for Portland) and I’ve been busy writing and working. Yargh. I blew off a meeting I had tonight to get more stuff done. We ended up curling up to watch Finding Neverland, because we seriously needed some quiet together time.

So I’ll finish work stuff up tomorrow morning, and finish proofreading Morgana’s handout (she’s doing a class on Irish mythology). My scavenger hunt is done and printed. We have a good packing list. Maybe I’ll even get a little writing done—it’s my plan, anyway.

Lots more to talk about, but no time now. I’m sure I’ll eventually get caught up, right? Right?!
