Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Our local SCA group’s Herbal Guild met today to make largesse and other goodies. I finally learned how to make lavender wands! [bounce bounce] I also made bath salts of rose petals, rose geranium, and rose oil; and of rose petals, rose geranium, lavender, and lavender oil. The house already smells good, and I haven’t even unpacked the stuff yet. I can’t wait to take a bath… I’ve posted pictures here. I also made a third wand, wrapped with green ribbon, that isn’t shown. I just had way too much fun!

Had a long talk with Ken tonight. I miss him, dammit. We’re trying to arrange a way for me to get up to Sequoia for a weekend ride in two weeks. Then he’ll be back down here in a few weeks for three Styx concerts. Meanwhile, it’s looking more promising that he’ll have to go to the UK to broker the purchase of another machine, probably in autumn. I am so there. I’m already compiling research of where I want to go this time: mostly east coast and York. (Note to UK friends: No promises on any of this yet. Once we have confirmation, we’ll let you know!)

In other news, after buying several copies (mostly unheard except for online snippets) for friends, I finally got myself a copy of the CD Mirror Mirror by Lorraine a’Malena. Lorraine is Neil Gaiman’s assistant, and Malena was the host of Thirteen Nights of Fright that Neil co-hosted a couple of years ago. The two women became fast friends and discovered a mutual love of goth and folk music, as well as corsets, and the rest is history. Neil wrote the lyrics to a number of the songs on the CD. Great music, too!
