Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Okay, I don’t take a lot of online quizzes. I don’t have the time, and most of them are blatantly obvious and easy to manipulate. But I took a second just now to take one about past lives, and apparently I have been (a) a fisherman, (b) a pirate, and (c) a pirate.

Guess my Wicked Red persona isn’t far off at all!

Other than when I was at the gym, showering, or eating, I’ve spent all day at one of three computers. E-mail seems to have exploded while I was away, so I’ve hammered away at that (much of it writing-related) as well as getting stories in the mail, going over various edits, and cleaning off/finishing as many projects as I can. I’m exhausted, and I’m still not done; I want to get a few words on a new story before I crash. Wish me luck…

A crucial requirement of being a writer is creativity, the ability to convey on the page all the senses. But it’s also got a dark side, a cruel knife-twist…like when you write about juicy, plump shrimp cocktail in spicy sauce washed down with a tart champagne, and then all you crave is a damn shrimp cocktail and it’s midnight and you just can’t get any.

Sigh.
