Encouraging Rejections

Ah, the life of an aspiring writer...

Yesterday I received another rejection, an encouraging rejection, one of those that says something like:

Dear Mr. Aspiring Writer,

Unfortunately we will not be using your story in our magazine. Though it was well-written and engaging it is not quite right for our needs.

Good luck placing it elsewhere and please send us your next.

Regards,
Pro Magazine Editor

These are sometimes even more agonizing that bland form rejections, because you know you were reasonably close. Ah well. I sent the story right back out to another mag.

And speaking of aspiring and writing, fellow writer and collaborator Mike Jasper recently posted a fine list of 10 Things He's Learned. It's sound advice, and though I don't always abide by all of them completely, I probably should.

Mike and I are still writing chunks of our collaboration, "The Shadow Wolf" back and forth to one another. We're probably about halfway through the story, maybe a little more, and it's been fun so far, a nice shot in the arm.
