Bernard Lewis on C-Span

Scholar and historian Bernard Lewis is on C-Span 2 for a three-hour interview this Sunday (and it will be re-broadcast on Monday as well).

Lewis is the author of What Went Wrong, an exploration of how the modern Arab world came to be the way it is.

The interview is pretty interesting so far, though I'm not sure Lewis' voice is gonna make it, and they keep having audio problems from callers.

He's hopeful that the aftermath of the war will lead to a stable, free society in Iraq (he points out the relative merits of a sound infrastructure, and resources, both natural and human), and he sounds as if he thinks the biggest impediments to that happening are the voices of dissent coming from countries such as France and Russia.

Though he did provide the caveat beforehand that he's primarily a historian, and thus can speak much more intelligently on the past than he can on reliably predicting the future.

Anyway, it's an interesting interview with a very smart, very knowledgable scholar of the Arab world. Have a look if you get the chance.
