From Fox News, via Andrew Sullivan.

Earlier reports of possible chemical weapons have been somewhat contradictory and premature.

This one may be as well. But they've already done two tests that indicate weapons-grade plutonium. We'll find out soon enough.

While officials aren't prepared to call the discovery a "smoking gun," two preliminary tests conducted on the material have indicated that it may be weapons-grade plutonium.

...

"It's amazing," Chief Warrant Officer Darrin Flick, the battalion's nuclear, biological and chemical warfare specialist told the newspaper. "I went to the off-site storage buildings, and the rad detector went off the charts. Then I opened the steel door, and there were all these drums, many, many drums, of highly radioactive material."

I personally don't subscribe to the "smoking gun" appellation. I think for the world to believe there were nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons before we got there, they're going to have to find a mountain of evidence, so huge that all but the most crazed, paranoid, black helicopter types will still be able to convince themselves it isn't real.

And a mountain starts with a handful of dirt.

Stay tuned.

Update: Here's another report on a possible mobile bio-weapons facility.
