Powell Assertions Untrue (Again)

Here is a quote from the New York Times today:
"Mr. Powell told the Senate Budget Committee that the bin Laden statement, broadcast this afternoon by Al Jazeera, an Arabic language television network, demonstrated that the United States could not contain Iraq through more aggressive weapons inspections or an enlarged United Nations presence."

Now, from what I've heard, bin Laden doesn't make any comments in support of Saddam Hussein or the Baath party in his tape, but even if he had this would still have nothing to do with whether containment through inspections was a good or bad strategy for blocking whatever threat might exist.

In fact if we are concerned about keeping WMD out of the hands of terrorists we'd try to avoid the chaos of a war. The WMD are much more likely to end up in terrorists hands if the country falls apart, loses it's center, whereas currently the whole world is watching, monitoring every move. At the moment there is tight control over whatever weapons might exist in Iraq, but after a war there would be fewer ways to keep track of anything.
