Democracy in Iraq and other delusional arguments for war

As the world has resoundingly said "NO" to an attack on Iraq those on the jingoistic right have changed their argument. Obviously there is no reason not to continue with inspections so the warmongers have abandoned earlier arguments about WMD and become, suddenly and out of nowhere, concerned with the plight of the Iraqi people. They are the new champions of democracy.

But wait. These are the same people who have no problem with the sanctions program that has put over a million Iraqis to death over the last twelve years, the same people who in fact supported Saddam in the 80's and early 90's, and support dictators in Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and so on and so forth even today. In fact these are the same people who told the Kurds that there will be no democratic movement in Iraq, and who twelve years ago tacitly supported Saddam AFTER the Gulf War in order to "maintain stability" in the region.

A good article about the supposed plans to bring democracy to Iraq can be found at the
Guardian
