Of course, almost everyone who was paying attention knew that the Bush administration was lying about the level of threat that Iraq posed to the United States, i remember reading a good year before the war that the CIA was complaining about the pressure they were feeling from the Bush administration to create the right story about Iraq. And doesn't anyone remember that Rumsfield actually started his own intelligence gathering project in order to dispute the CIA and others who said that Iraq was not a threat?

Still, despite the obvious fear tactics, despite how ludicrous the claims were, most people believed that Iraq posed some sort of threat to the United States. And now, despite the reports that no WMD have been found most Americans believe that we have found WMD'S.

Clearly it's not that the American people are stupid. I think an eleven year old kid with Downs Syndrome could probably figure out what's going on here. No, we aren't stupid, we are willfully indifferent to facts and trained to believe what we're told.
