A Bit of Randomness

Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats. --Diane Arbus

Because It Came With the House

I don't cook.

Note, I didn't say that I *can't* cook, I said that I don't. Those of you who have eaten food that I've prepared can attest that I'm actually not all that bad (and yes, I'm am blatantly editing out the Chocolate Chip Cookie Incident of high school glory. Shut it, you). And strangely enough, one of my favourite stations is the Food Network.

But I've come up with many reasons over the years to not cook:
1. my kitchen is nasty
2. my kitchen is too small
3. I don't have decent apparatus
4. it's only me, why should I bother??
5. I don't have any freakin' patience
6. well...you get the idea...

But as Dylan gets older and needs to eat actual food (what's with that, anyway???), I realize that I can't feed her the same old same old and expect to have her grow up healthy (let alone at all - depending on what I give her!). Plus, I can't justify fixing something nutritious for her and then sitting down and eating crap at the same time. As it is, I've already lost 23 pounds since I've been home with her (why yes, that was a blatant brag, thank you very much!!) - all the product of trying to model a healthier lifestyle for her.

So what I'm saying is: I've been having the desire to actually cook. Not just make reservations, not just heat up frozen/ premade meals. No. I desire to make varied and healthy meals for those that I love.

Mind you, as always, there's a catch. And those of you who know my husband have already figured it out.

See, as wonderful and amazing as he is, the boy has a, hmmm... shall we say, discriminating palate. That is, he is unable to eat anything with seeds, nuts or a shell (like corn) and won't eat many more other things. So it's hard to figure out what I can make that doesn't rely on the old standbys of meat and potatoes.

Woe is me, eh?

But, this does give me yet another excuse to go to the library to find books that can help out with How to Cook For a Family With Randomly Dissimilar Tastes. Like I need one...
