Gifted Trust John Paul Allen Biting Dog Publications $15.95 Trade Paperback Reviewed by Elizabeth Peake Virago is his name. For those who have already had the pleasure of reading GIFTED TRUST, the name of Virago will conjure up images of the true monsters dwelling in our neighborhoods. They know they aren’t safe, and neither are their children. For those of you who haven’t read this book, your safety is a misconception. In 1931, Max Belote decided to take a drastic action to ensure the safety of others. His action too, was a misconception. His action ensured Virago’s existence in a way no one could have known. Virago knew something Max did not. He knew that as long as human-assisted evil continues to violate those who trust them, Virago and his disturbed methods of control would only get stronger. GIFTED TRUST is a novel that will both frighten and awaken your senses. It will take all the safety precautions you have taught your children time and again, and turn them into dust. It will take your beliefs and non-beliefs, and question them in a way you hadn’t thought possible. It will convince you that no matter what you do, what you teach or what precautions you take, it’s all for naught. I cried several times while reading GIFTED TRUST. I cried for the fictional characters who represent those who have fallen at the hands of the filth they trusted, and for those yet to fall. I cried because as much as I wanted to believe parts of this book was purely fiction, I knew in my heart the author couldn’t have been more correct in his portrayals. And I cried for the author himself because, if my reactions to this book are any indication of what he went through to write it, this book truly has his blood, sweat and tears stained within. The author states that this was a difficult book to write. Believe me, he has severely understated himself.
