January 23rd 1991: I lost my "second" Mom to diabetes. My beautiful Nana was only 64 years old. She was your typical Mexican woman, making handmade tortillas and cooking for her big family. At times, her illness would slow her down but her strong will had my respect and admiration. I will never stop missing her.

November 2nd 1998: I lost my Mom to diabetes. My beautiful Mother was only 55 years old. I could go on forever about how she was the best mom in the world and many of you would nod your heads and think, "Everyone thinks that about their Mom," and you'd be right, to some extent. My Mom was my best friend and the only person who ever truly understood me. To say I miss her compares to someone saying they miss their heart but can go on. My body literally aches for her.

I want to wish all my friends a Happy Mother's Day. Spend it with your Moms, your kids and those who are left behind to pick up the pieces when you fall apart.

I know that's what I will be doing, today.

I'm spending the day with my kids at a farm-turned-restaurant in Indiana. They serve very good food and have a playground and lots to do, afterwards. I'll be feeding ducks and pretending to my hubby I've got a baby one in my pocket that just needs my love. All the while, he'll be shaking his head and saying, "Not another mouth to feed, I beg you."

A horror writer needs a little horror in each day, of this you can be sure.

Okay, here's the horror: My mother-in-law will be there.
