Eric Mayer Byzantine Blog Probably the only vaguely interesting thing about me is that with my wife, Mary Reed, I co-author the John the Eunuch mystery series set in sixth century Constantinople. But that doesn't stop me from dwelling here on the boring minutiae of the rest of my life, present and past, along with the occasional word about writing. |

2003-10-12 9:52 AM Baseball History on Your Computer Since I'm a lifetime Yankees fan and Mary cheers for the Cubs we seem to be approaching a real bloodletting here. So, the heck with this year, how about those 1938 International League Red Wings? D.B.Schmidt continues to improve his free, stat based SBS and by now aficionados have created files for, I think, every 20th and 21st century major league team and some 19th century ones as well! So now minor leagues are appearing. Want to replay the 1938 IL season? Mischa Gelman has made it possible. Even if you don't want to play the game, it is well worth navigating to the teams download page just to grab the accompanying essay about the league, which featured plenty of Hall of Famers on the way up and down but whose best player was a career minor leaguer named Ollie Carnegie. Great stuff.
