Eric Mayer Byzantine Blog Probably the only vaguely interesting thing about me is that with my wife, Mary Reed, I co-author the John the Eunuch mystery series set in sixth century Constantinople. But that doesn't stop me from dwelling here on the boring minutiae of the rest of my life, present and past, along with the occasional word about writing. |

2006-02-12 12:51 PM Return of the Binge Blogger So, the binge blogger returns.
Sometimes you feel like a blog, sometimes you don't. I really should space my entries out. My absence the past week has been mostly due to a blizzard of work. Luckily, the non-metaphorical nor'easter only grazed us. Today the sun's shining off a thin layer of snow and three young squirrels are chasing each other around the trunk of one of the pines by the house. Gray stripes on a gray barber's poll. They must just recently have emerged from the dray in the crook far up the poplar next door. I noticed the dray in the fall, after the leaves came down. It's always puzzled me that squirrels are often born during the winter months. But the sun is stronger than it was during December and the days have been lengthening for almost two months. Maybe the animals have a better sense of what's going on than we do. As for me, I'm back to work. It's something like running around and around a tree but less fun.
