Eric Mayer
Byzantine Blog

Probably the only vaguely interesting thing about me is that with my wife, Mary Reed, I co-author the John the Eunuch mystery series set in sixth century Constantinople. But that doesn't stop me from dwelling here on the boring minutiae of the rest of my life, present and past, along with the occasional word about writing.

Poisoned Pen Press

There is no pleasure to me without communication: there is not so much as a sprightly thought comes into my mind that it does not grieve me to have produced alone, and that I have no one to tell it to.

Sunday Supplement

Remember when newspapers used to have decent Sunday magazine sections? Well, today's blog comes with a supplement. I just received a note from David Burton:

Just wanted to let you know that the 15th issue of my fanzine, CATCHPENNY GAZETTE, is available for downloading. It's once again done as a PDF intended to be printed rather than read on-screen.

This issue features Eric Mayer's "Notes From Byzantium" column (topics include winter, can cats tell time, aging, philately, and an image of Jesus in a tree trunk), an article by Jim Lavell on paying bills and college exams, Jack Blandifet's new "Palimpsest" column on rock LPs from the late 60s/early 70s (SUPER SESSION this time around), Lee Lavell new column "Much Nothings About Ado" where she talks about rediscovering fandom on the Internet and reviews the movie "Elephant," Dave Locke on putting his foot in his mouth and his unusual first in-person encounter with a fan, Chris Garcia's "Found In Collection" column; this time he finds copies of LUNA MONTHLY in the Computer History Museum, and my editorial about reconnecting with friends and fans from the past. Artwork this issue is mostly by Brad Foster, Marc Shermeister, and Rotsler.

It can be downloaded from http://www.geocities.com/cpgzine or from http://www.efanzines.com File size is approximately 670K.

Now all I need are some decent bagels.
