Eric Mayer
Byzantine Blog

Probably the only vaguely interesting thing about me is that with my wife, Mary Reed, I co-author the John the Eunuch mystery series set in sixth century Constantinople. But that doesn't stop me from dwelling here on the boring minutiae of the rest of my life, present and past, along with the occasional word about writing.

Poisoned Pen Press

There is no pleasure to me without communication: there is not so much as a sprightly thought comes into my mind that it does not grieve me to have produced alone, and that I have no one to tell it to.

A Zine Is Born

I've had so few worthwhile blog ideas in my head this past month I can hear them rattling around in there when I move, and that distracts me too much to even write any of those down. However, some folks are more prolific. David Burton has a brand new fanzine -- featuring the usual suspects -- including me, from my more inspired days. David says:

Just wanted to let you know that the first issue of my fanzine, PIXEL, is available for downloading.

PIXEL is essentially CATCHPENNY GAZETTE with a new name and format, designed more for onscreen reading, although it can still be printed out since it's done in 8 1/2 x 11 landscape format.

This issue features "Again Modest Proposals," humor by Jim Lavell (on the easiest way to rid fandom of the scourge of fanzines), Eric Mayer's "Notes >From Byzantium" column (on math & science, old records, Jules Verne, and taking out the trash), Dave Locke's "Difugalty: I Remember Lemuria, and Mu, Dimly" (cleaning a pool and drinking with Dean Grennell and David Hulan), Lee Lavell's "Much Nothings About Ado" (the soap opera PASSIONS), Peter Sullivan's new fanzine review column, "Being Frank," Chris Garcia's "Found In Collection" about people he's met at Baycons, and the lettercolumn. Art by Brad Foster and Rotsler.

It can be downloaded from efanzines
File size is approximately 500K

Now I have to go shake my head. Maybe an idea or two will fall out.
